How to play Chromatic Echo
Chromatic Echo is a musical take on the classic "I packed my suitcase" memory game. Each color plays a note, the sequence grows every turn, and the last player who remembers it wins. It supports 2 to 8 players, including bots.
The goal
Be the last player standing. Everyone builds one shared sequence of colors together. Play a wrong color and you're out, unless a power-up saves you.
Your turn
- Replay the sequence. Tap every color played so far, in order, starting from the first.
- Add one color. Then tap any color you like to make the sequence one longer.
- Play passes to the next player, who has to replay the whole sequence, including your new color.
The first player of a game has nothing to replay, so they just add the first color.
The eight colors and their notes
| Color | Note | Color | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ruby | C4 | Teal | G4 |
| Amber | D4 | Azure | A4 |
| Gold | E4 | Violet | B4 |
| Jade | F4 | Magenta | C5 |
Together the colors make a C major scale, so every sequence sounds like a tune. Hosts can pick one of four sound packs: piano, guitar, synth or 8-bit.
Turn timer and difficulty
Every turn has a timer, and running out of time counts as a miss. The timer gets longer as the sequence grows (up to one minute). The host chooses the difficulty, which sets the timer and how good the bots are:
| Difficulty | Base time | Extra per color | Bots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 30 s | +1.1 s | Forgetful. A replay button is available. |
| Normal | 22 s | +0.9 s | Solid, but they slip on long sequences |
| Hard | 15 s | +0.65 s | Sharp and fast in duels |
Bonus duels
About once a minute, normal play pauses for a Bonus Duel. Everyone watches a short, new sequence of seven colors, and after a countdown all players race to tap it back. The first player to finish it correctly wins a random power-up:
- ❤️ Extra Life: survive one wrong note.
- ⏩ Double Play: add two colors on your next turn.
- ⤵️ Skip Next: the next player is skipped.
- ❄️ Freeze: extra time on your next turn.
- 🩸 Steal Life: take a life from the leader (or gain one).
- 🔄 Reverse: turn order flips direction.
- 🪞 Mirror: the next player has to replay the sequence backwards.
- 🐢 Slow-Mo: get a slow replay of the sequence on your next turn.
If a game runs for ten minutes, a final duel decides the winner.
Starting a game
- Enter your name and press Create Room.
- Press Copy invite and send the link, or share the four-letter code.
- Playing alone or with a small group? The host can add up to seven bots with Add bot.
- The host picks the difficulty and sound pack, then presses Start Game. You need at least two players, and bots count.
Memory tips
- Hum the tune. Because the colors are a scale, the sequence is a melody. Many players remember the sound better than the colors.
- Chunk it. Remember the sequence in groups of three or four ("red-amber-gold, blue-teal…"), the same way you'd remember a phone number.
- Add colors that trip up others. Your added color can be anything. Repeating a color, or jumping far up or down the scale, breaks the melody for the next player.
- Watch every turn. The live trail shows each color as opponents play it. If you follow along, you rehearse the sequence before your own turn.
- Don't rush duels. One wrong tap ends your run in a duel. Being a little slower and accurate usually beats being fast and wrong.
FAQ
Do I have to use my own color?
No. The color next to your name is only there to tell players apart. You can add any of the eight colors on your turn.
What happens if someone disconnects?
The game keeps going for everyone else. Players who drop out during a game stay in the room's list, and their turns time out.
Can I play without sound?
Yes. Tap the speaker button in the corner to mute. The colors still flash, so the game works fine without sound.
